7000 Wells and Holt people left without NHS dental service

About 7000 people were left scrambling to find alternative dentists after two Compass Clinic surgeries in Wells and Holt went into administration and closed unexpectedly. 

But now Damira Dental Studios has said it will be acquiring both of the surgeries.

Damira Dental Studios has been operating for more than 20 years and has 33 practices across the UK.

A spokesman for the group said: "We are pleased to share that Damira Dental Studios has agreed to acquire these practices.

"They will now operate as Damira Wells and Damira Holt, respectively.

However, the company has also said that it would not be reopening the surgeries with an NHS service. 

The spokesman also said: "While we are working hard to secure an NHS contract, we regret to inform you that we cannot provide NHS services at this time.

"We understand the importance of accessible dental care and are committed to offering NHS services in the future. 

"Patients who were previously under Astradent's care will be contacted with further details about their ongoing dental services."

Dr Anushika Brogan, managing and clinical director, said: "We are pleased to announce the planned acquisition of Astradent Dental Group and look forward to reopening its clinics as part of Damira Dental Studios."

"We understand concerns about the absence of an NHS contract.

"Unfortunately, with Astradent having ceased trading, the new provider requires its own contract to offer NHS services.

"Rest assured, we are in active discussions with local NHS commissioners and expect further guidance soon. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition."

It is not yet known when the Wells practice will reopen, however Holt is open only for emergencies and business was expected to resume at the surgery by Monday, August 5.
